Teknion is a major
manufacturer of office furniture. This renovation of an industrial
building was
designed as a working
showroom for the Columbus company selling their systems as well
as full range of related products. The arrangement of products
and finishes
were carefully considered to create a coherent atmosphere while
at the same time demonstrating the breadth of the product line.
The
architectural setting was designed to be a neutral backdrop – highlighting
the furniture and existing building - rather than competing with
them. A notable exception is the functional kitchen located at
the center of the space. This element, a requirement brought forth
by
the client, serves many functions. It becomes an informal gathering
point for employees throughout the day. It also creates opportunities
for relaxed interaction with clients.
Also incorporated in the
design is a relocatable wall system offered by Teknion. Again – a
range of fascias, finishes and doors were included for demonstration
purposes – but done so in
a manner that enhances the polished feel of the space rather than
fragmenting
it. |
